How long does the plugged feeling last after using a but plug?

I had it in for about 2 hours last night and I woke up this morning and my rectum has a plugged almost constipated feeling. How long do these symptoms last and what can I do next time to avoid this? I used a heap of vaseline but that didn't seem to help.
